It seems in recent weeks that the Jaguars front office has been under scrutiny because they stand by their starting quarterback Blake Bortles. Even after hiring Tom Coughlin as Executive VP of football operations, he made a statement that Bortles is still the starter.
The Jags had clear struggles this season after going 3-13 and firing Head coach Gus Bradley after posting a 14-48 record in 4 seasons. The Jaguars seem to consistently be at the bottom of the conference every year for as long as I can remember. This season can be blamed on offensive line struggles, poor defensive play(very young players with potential such as Dante Fowler JR. and Jalen Ramsey), and lack of consistency at running back.
Blake Bortles had his breakout season in 2015 throwing for 4,400 yards with 35 touchdowns and only 18 interceptions. In 2016, he threw for 500 less yards and 12 fewer touchdowns. Looking at these numbers, many began to claim that Bortles had no place in the NFL. These people do not realize that although those numbers may have been down, his completion percentage was higher and his interception numbers were down as well. Bortles is arguably the best out of pocket passer in the NFL.
The best news for Jags fans is that he is only 24 years old. Putting up over 11,000 yards and nearly 70 touchdowns in three seasons, Bortles is showing that he is the Jaguars Franchise Quarterback for years to come. He is showing improvement in areas of his game that are miles better than he was as a rookie. So people need to lay off of Bortles and look at other areas of the Jaguars offense, such as more weapons than just Allen Robinson or the injury-prone Chris Ivory.
